PET SHOP

While setting up a new "pet store" on 7th avenue, Banksy was able to confuse and upset New Yorkers who for days spotted animals such as a Leopard and Monkeys through the unfinished window.   As a part of his first New York installation "The Village Pet Store and Charcoal Grill", Bansky displays artworks that include a couple of chicken nuggets sipping ketchup, hot dogs writhing underneath heat lamps, two fish fingers floating in a fish bowl and robotic rabbits wearing pearl necklaces.  Bansky's explanation for the pet store that appears to be a  fully funcationing retail outlet was "New Yorkers don't care about art, they care about pets, So I'm exhibiting them instead".   He added the Philosophical aspect to the work , saying"I wanted to make art that questioned our relationship with animals and the ethics and sustainability of factory farming but it ended up as chicken nuggets singing."  The pet shop is open for business everyday until midnight through October 31st.

PARIS FASHION WEEK

 Alexander McQueen's Spring 2009 show

Balenciaga Spring 2009

Ahhh. Paris. How we adore you and more importantly the Fashion weeks you host.
For Spring 2009 shows, designers seems to have the enviroment on the brain.

Alexander McQueen 's runway was backed by a video projection of a revolving Earth and flanked with an assortment of stuffed animals of endanged species. Through program notes, McQueen explaned he had been pondering Charles Darwin , the survival of the fittest, and the deleterious results of industrialzation on the natural world.   Wood like, florals, and updated animal prints covered skinny-leg pants, nude netting shifts, fit jackets and cocoon dresses.

Nicolas Ghesquiere for Balenciaga, played with textures, and played shine vs matte to make models look like walking solar panels. Describing it has "sci-fi couture" pushed the limits of what one can wear, with dresses, jumpsuits and A-line tunic tops that looklike they had been pumped from a modernize industrial machine.
